At Kelly’s Fresh Fish we care about the environment we live in and the resources we harvest! We take consistent steps to ensure we are doing our part to continually build the resource. Our governing body, the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC), in cooperation with our State, manage our fisheries in a way that preserves, protects and perpetuates all the stocks we fish, in addition to the stocks that co-mingle with the fish we catch.
We are involved in the annual season setting process so we stay informed and understand the latest science behind the decisions that are made about our fisheries so we can therefore inform our customers. Having a resource that will be here for generations to come is very important to us so we’ve put our money where our mouth is and joined forces to create partnerships with some of the leading environmental guardian organizations in the world. If we are doing something wrong or can do it differently that will make a positive impact on the resource, then we want to be educated on how to do it right. These groups help to keep us accountable to aid the very resource we harvest!
The Monterey Bay Aquarium and it's Seafood Watch program empowers consumers and businesses to make choices for healthy oceans by choosing seafood that is harvested in ways to protect sea life and habitats, now and for future generations. They rate fisheries and aquaculture around the world using standards that consist of guiding principles, science based criteria and a robust scoring methodology. Fishchoice.com is an online, sustainable seafood sourcing tool that connects retail, restaurant and institutional seafood buyers to suppliers of sustainable seafood products. Anyone can use the site to find suppliers of sustainable seafood products. You can view our ratings by visiting their site @fishchoice.com, look for our name under “Supplier Directory”, click on our name to view our current ratings.
Smart Catch is designed by Chefs, for Chefs and is working to drive market share of sustainable seafood sold through restaurants by addressing the many barriers to get sustainable seafood to a diners plate from reliable sources, to chef training and consumer awareness. Participating restaurants display a Smart Catch label in their establishment to make it easy for diners to choose sustainable seafood for their next meal.
